Hospital Psychiatric Services
From 1 April 2020, cover for Hospital Psychiatric Services will be classed as 'restricted' on Mid Classic (Silver Plus). That means you’ll still be covered for treatment as a private patient in a public hospital, but not in a private hospital.
If anyone on your membership is currently in treatment, they'll be covered in a private hospital until 1 June 2020.
Do you want cover for Hospital Psychiatric Services in a private hospital after 1 April 2020?
- If you do, please upgrade to our Top Hospital (Gold) cover by 1 April 2020, so you don’t have to re-serve waiting periods for Hospital Psychiatric Services (if you upgrade in the future). To do this, call us on 1300 367 906 Monday – Thursday 8am – 8pm, Friday 8am – 6pm or Saturday 8.30am –12.30pm (AEST/AEDT), or email us.
- If you're unsure, you can stay on Mid Classic (Silver Plus), with the option to access the Mental Health Waiver in the future.
Mental Health Waiver
The waiver allows members with restricted cover for Hospital Psychiatric Services to upgrade to cover that includes it (without serving the normal two-month waiting period).
You can access the waiver once in a lifetime, provided you’ve had Hospital cover for at least two months before you use it.
Why the change?
Compared to other health funds, our Mid Classic (Silver Plus) is one of the cheapest products in the market to include Hospital Psychiatric Services at a private hospital.
Considering the typical nature of psychiatric claims (where treatment is often costly and ongoing), continuing to cover Hospital Psychiatric Services on Mid Classic (Silver Plus) would mean a significant premium increase for all members on this cover.
This is not a decision we’ve made lightly, but one we’ve had to make as part of our responsibility to all members in ensuring we operate in a financially sustainable manner.
A simpler Access Gap scheme, and no excess for any kids on your cover.
Extra support for Teachers Health members.
If so, some of your Extras benefits will increase on 1 April 2020.
