2023 timeline

First, some good news on the financial front:

  • Your premium – we're postponing 2023 premium increases until 1 October. This gives you a full 6 months’ cover at your current rate.

  • Australian Government Rebate – the government didn't reduce the rebate on private health insurance this year. So members who claim it retain their current rebate level. See the latest (as at 1 July 2023) income thresholds to find out your rebate rate.

Premium increases

Normally, premium increases happen on 1 April each year, along with any changes to Hospital and/or Extras benefits. However, the regular cycle has been disrupted since the COVID pandemic began.

We delayed our increases in 2020 and 2022 and – in recognition of the current cost-of-living pressure on members – have done so for 6 months in 2023.

This 6-month postponement will save members approximately $14 million, taking the Teachers Health Group* COVID support measures total to approx. $79 million.

What next?

You’ll hear from us late August/early September with your new premium details and any Extras benefit improvements.

We’ll send your premium notification via post or email, depending on your contact preferences. All members also receive a copy in their Online Member Services mailbox.

How to update your contact preferences

Are Extras benefits increasing from 1 October 2023?

Yes, see improvements to Top Extras, Essential Extras and StarterPak.

How can I check what I’m covered for?

You’ll find an overview of your benefits, limits, and per-person or sub-limits, on your Private Health Information Statement (PHIS).

You can access your PHIS anytime via your Online Member Services mailbox. They’re also enclosed with posted premium notifications.

Please read your PHIS carefully, as it’ll help you understand what you are, and aren’t, covered for. If you’d like to talk through your cover options, please contact us.

Can I prepay my premium?
