You’re not alone

Experiencing depression or anxiety (or both), can be isolating. We’re committed to helping eligible UniHealth members get the support they need*. One of the ways we do this is through our Mental Wellness Program.

It might be right for you if:

  • you have distressing symptoms, but haven’t reached out to your GP or a mental health professional
  • you’ve been diagnosed with depression and/or anxiety but aren’t coping and would like extra support.

If you're in need of urgent mental health support:

Please get help right away, by contacting one of the following services:

  • Triple zero (000), or your closest hospital emergency department
  • Lifeline 13 11 14
  • Beyondblue 1300 22 4636

How it works

The program is delivered by Teachers Healthcare Services in tandem with our specialist mental health services partner.

The first step is a quick phone call with one of our experienced health professionals. They’ll ask you a few questions to understand where you’re at, and if the program is likely to be beneficial (and safe) for you. They'll also check if you're eligible for the program.

If so, we’ll connect you with a mental health professional for a comprehensive assessment. This will tell us how many sessions may work best for you. If you want to go ahead with the plan, we’ll get started.

The program is phone-based. There are two components:

Mental wellness – phone sessions with an empathetic mental health professional. Working with the same person each time creates a safe space for you to get the most out of your conversations. The program content is tailored to you – common themes include developing strategies to build resilience, managing anxiety and/or depression and supporting emotional wellbeing.

Nutrition – phone consults with a Teachers Healthcare Services Accredited Practising Dietitian. This element of the program recognises the importance of nutrition in our mental health.
